Calgary police are searching for suspects after several shots were fired in northwest Calgary on Wednesday night, including one bullet which traveled through a restaurant wall.

It happened in an alley near 10 Street N.W. and 3 Avenue N.W., in the Kensington area, at around 8 p.m.

A bullet hole was visible in the sign for Bodega, a restaurant on 10 Street N.W.

One of the restaurant’s co-owners, Jesus Camarena, told Global News at first he didn’t know what happened. He said he heard “popping” noises, but it was a co-worker who noticed the hole at the top of the eatery’s front wall.

It appears the bullet traveled through the restaurant, striking a back wall before falling onto the floor.

No injuries were reported.

“It’s scary,” Camarena said. “It could have been lower, and it could have hit anyone.”

A witness, who didn’t want to be identified, told Global News she heard four gunshots as she and her boyfriend were walking to an LRT station.

“We suddenly heard three loud ‘pop, pop, pop’ noises,” she said. “I wasn’t sure whether it was a car backfiring or gunshots. We looked back to where they came from and then started walking again, and then all of a sudden we heard a fourth one, really loudly, and at that point we thought, ‘OK that’s probably gunshots.'”

“We turned around to the direction where the shot came from and I saw this guy turning from a building and sprint across the busy street … this guy was just sprinting like his life depended on it.”

“I was pretty freaked out.”
