The RCMP said its Major Crimes South Unit has taken over the investigation into the death of a 27-year-old man who died in hospital after being found with injuries from a fight in a community south of Edmonton.
According to police, officers were called to Maskwacis, Alta. at 5:13 a.m. Friday to attend to a “male who had been in a physical altercation.”

Mounties said no arrests have been made in connection with the incident but said they believe “this was not a random act and the public is not at risk.”

Police said an autopsy has been scheduled for Monday.
Maskwacis is about a one-hour drive south of Edmonton.
