A neutral third-party investigator is being brought in to investigate allegations that a candidate in the Alberta Progressive Conservative leadership campaign was harassed.
Party president Katherine O’Neill says there is no timeline, but the committee running the contest wants to get to the bottom of what happened to Calgary MLA Sandra Jansen as quickly as possible.
Jansen announced this week that she has dropped out of the race, saying the personal and online abuse she’s endured from supporters of another candidate became intolerable.
“My presence in this race has so enraged a socially regressive element, that I fear it will take away from our ability to fight what is turning out to be a very hostile takeover attempt on the party that I am so proud of,” reads an email sent to Jansen’s email subscribers.

Former PC MLA Donna Kennedy-Glans also announced her departure from the race this week, stating she was concerned the party was moving too far right on social issues.
