Funeral for Ken Gellatly, killed in BC plane crash, held Monday

A funeral for 64-year-old optometrist Ken Gellatly, who was killed in a plane crash in B.C. this month, was held in Calgary on Monday.

Gellatly was one of four people killed on Oct. 13 when a Cessna he was travelling on crashed north of Kelowna shortly after takeoff. Former Alberta premier Jim Prentice was among those on board, along with Sheldon Reid and pilot Jim Kruk. A memorial for Kruk was held on Friday.

Gellatly graduated from the University of Waterloo and practiced optometry for 40 years.

He is survived by his wife Jane, daughter Breanne and son Ryan – who is married to Prentice’s daughter Cassia.

The service for Gellatly was held at the Grace Presbyterian Church on 15 Avenue S.W. at 2 p.m.

A public state memorial for Prentice, meanwhile, will be held at the Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium in Calgary at 11 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 28.

A funeral for Reid will be held at Eden Brook Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home on Wednesday at 2 p.m.
