Alberta’s NDP government announced Wednesday a state memorial will be held for former premier Jim Prentice who was killed in a plane crash last week.
Prentice, 60, was on board on a Cessna Citation that went down on Thursday shortly after taking off from Kelowna, B.C. The crash also took the lives of his friends Ken Gellatly, Sheldon Reid and pilot Jim Kruk.
The state memorial for Prentice will be held at the Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium in Calgary at 11 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 28. It will be open to the public.
Prentice was Alberta’s 16th premier but held the position for less than eight months. He served until May 24, 2015.
He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Karen, three daughters and two grandchildren.
