Two schools in southwest Calgary were placed in lockdown on Tuesday morning.
Calgary police said “unspecified” threats were made to Bishop Carrol High School and Bishop Grandin High School. Officers told Global News the threats were later deemed “not credible.”
Both schools are part of the Calgary Catholic School District.
“The lockdown was initiated as a precautionary measure while Calgary Police Service investigated a threat received by school administration,” Calgary Catholic School District spokesperson Karen Ryhorchuk told Global News.
Ryhorchuk said once police deemed there was “no risk to students” the lockdown was lifted at about 12:30 p.m. She said lockdown drills are executed throughout the year to make sure students know what to do.
“Regardless of whether a threat is deemed credible or not, we always enter into a lockdown in order to ensure the safety of our students and staff.”
