Police are currently looking for one boy who escaped secure custody from the Paul Dojack Youth Centre in Regina Thursday afternoon.
The Saskatchewan government said at approximately 3:20 p.m., four boys initially escaped from secure custody.
Three of the young offenders have been apprehended.
The Ministry of Justice said it took “extraordinary measures” to obtain a court order that allowed the ministry to release details about the boy.
The order was sought because the boy poses a risk to community safety due to his violent history.
“I can’t speak specifically to the charges, the court order doesn’t allow me to do that,” Ministry of Justice spokesperson Drew Wilby said.
“I can say they are serious in nature, they were violent in nature and they should be taken very seriously.”
Young offender facilities in Saskatchewan have reported six escapes from secure custody and 114 from open custody in 2016.
When youth are in open custody, the doors are not locked at the Paul Dojack Youth Centre. However, if they leave the correctional facility, police are notified.
