16-year-old boy dead after dirt bike collision in southern Alberta

A 16-year-old boy is dead after a dirt bike collision last weekend.

At around 4:44 p.m. on Aug. 7, Picture Butte RCMP were called to a private property east of Diamond City.

The teen was part of a group of four riders. Police said he crashed while trying to navigate steep terrain.

He was unconscious when RCMP arrived and was taken by ground ambulance to Chinook Regional Hospital in Lethbridge.

He was later transported by STARS Air Ambulance to Foothills Hospital in Calgary, where he died early Wednesday morning.

Picture Butte RCMP have determined it was not a suspicious occurrence. The name of the victim is not being released.

Diamond City is located about 200 kilometres southeast of Calgary.
