It was a busy day for emergency crews Saturday, as they responded to several vehicle collisions west of Calgary on Highway 1 near Range Road 33.
EMS said one crash happened between a group of motorcycles and a pickup truck at around 11 a.m., where the truck rolled over and the motorcyclists lost control.
Three motorcyclists were taken to Foothills Hospital. A man in his 40s and a woman in her 50s were in stable condition and suffered minor injuries. A man in his 50s suffered serious injuries but was also in stable condition.
The occupants in the truck were not injured.
Then roughly an hour later, a mid-sized sedan rear-ended a pickup truck.
The driver of the car, a woman in her 50s, was taken to Foothills Hospital in stable condition with minor injuries. The occupants in the truck weren’t injured.
EMS responded with a number of resources throughout the hour from Calgary and Cochrane.
An ambulance from Canmore, which was in the midst of transferring a patient from Banff to Calgary (from an unrelated incident), came across the first collision as people at the scene began to call 9-1-1.
EMS wanted to remind drivers to never exceed the posted speed limit and to ensure that there is at a minimum of four to five seconds travelling/stopping distance between your vehicle and the vehicle in front of you, especially during the busy long weekend.
