Both STARS Air Ambulance and Halo Air Rescue Helicopters were called to the scene.

Jared Weaver said he witnessed the crash and called 911.

“We had to make sure everyone was OK,” he said. “There was a few people in distress but there was nothing we could do. We left it in the hands of the trained people.”

Weaver said he is hoping the crash will be a reminder for people to slow down on gravel roads and keep an eye on dust conditions.

“It’s so quiet out here, we never see things like this,” he said. “It really hits us because we take it for granted but we always have to be careful – we just forget sometimes.”

“With the busy season approaching for us – as farmers – it’s a good wake up.”

AHS said while three of the patients were taken to hospital with serious injuries, three were in stable condition.

Police continue to investigate what caused the collision.

Grassy Lake is about a one hour drive east of Lethbridge.
