Body found at bottom of the Cleveland Dam

Emergency crews gather at the Cleveland Dam in the District of North Vancouver on July 24, 2016.

The BC Coroners Service and RCMP are investigating after a body was found at the bottom of the Cleveland Dam at the head of the Capilano River this afternoon.

Brian Hutchinson, assistant chief of the District of North Vancouver Fire and Rescue Services, says they were called to the scene at 1:15 p.m.

“There was no one that indicated they were with the individual at this point in time. It was reports of a passerby that witnessed someone in the water,” he said.

Because of the difficulty in accessing the body, a helicopter team with North Shore Rescue was brought in.

It’s unknown how long the body was there for, and the victim’s name has not been disclosed.
