Police said they ‘fear the worst’ and have called off their search for Pierre Lajeunesse, 40, after a boating accident on Lac Saint-Louis.
Police received an emergency call around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday from a sailboat near the Beaconsfield Yacht Club.
“We are on the lake, on the shore and on the Saint-Lawrence,” André Leclerc, a spokesperson with Montreal police, said Wednesday morning.
Montreal police divers were assisted by the Montreal fire department, the coast guard and the Sûreté du Québec.
According to police, two men were sailing when Lajeunesse jumped into the water, and disappeared after being hit by a wave.
Lajeunesse’s sailing companion, a 43-year-old man, did not have enough sailing knowledge and had to wait for the boat to reach the shore before calling police.
According to police, alcohol may have played a role in the incident.
