“We are on the lake, on the shore and on the Saint-Lawrence,” André Leclerc, a spokesperson with Montreal police, said Wednesday morning.

Montreal police divers were assisted by the Montreal fire department, the coast guard and the Sûreté du Québec.

According to police, two men were sailing when Lajeunesse jumped into the water, and disappeared after being hit by a wave.

Lajeunesse’s sailing companion, a 43-year-old man, did not have enough sailing knowledge and had to wait for the boat to reach the shore before calling police.
