A Calgary father is warning other parents about an accused sex offender in the northwest.

His nine-year-old girl says she was sexually abused by her babysitter.

“I guess it’s been going on for years, and nothing was ever said nothing, never brought up and it was actually the sexual awareness class at the school that made her actually tell her friend. Then she told her friend and her friend told her mom and then her mom told my daughters mom,“ the girl’s father told Global News.

The father of the girl can’t be identified to protect the young victim in the case.

“You just don’t really think it’s going to happen and it does,” the father said.

Ronald Pearson, 67, is charged with sexual assault, sexual interference and invitation to sexual touching.

When contacted by Global News, Pearson denied the allegations.

“There’s nothing to say. I’m not guilty of them and we will prove that in a court of law,” said Pearson.

“It’s not easy, it’s not easy on my kids, it’s not easy on myself. I’m not guilty and that’s as plain and simple as you can get it.”

Pearson was arrested last week, and released on a promise to appear in court July 26, 2016.

He has a list of condition to follow including no contact with the victim or any witnesses, and he’s not allowed to be around children under the age of 16.

The Calgary Police Child Abuse Unit investigates more than five hundred cases a year with the majority involving sexual abuse.
