A man has died after his pickup truck was hit by a train at a railway crossing at 1 Avenue N.W. in Airdrie shortly before 2 p.m. Thursday.
EMS said it took emergency crews hours to extricate the man, believed to be in his 80s, from his badly damaged Ford F-150 pickup truck. He died on scene.

The area was closed to traffic while RCMP investigated. They interviewed a number of witnesses at the scene.
It’s still unclear what led to the crash.
No one else was hurt.
