Jim Hartlin has always dreamed of becoming a millionaire, and last week, that dream came true.
Hartlin checked his ticket on Sunday, the day after the big 6-49 draw.
“I went down to use my cell phone,” said Hartlin. “I checked the lotto line and I got all six numbers right — one right after the other.”

He contacted the Atlantic Lotto offices and was told he was the single winner of the $9.8 million dollar jackpot.

“I called up. Somebody I was talking to on the other line told me to sit down and told me how much it was. I said, ‘What? Me?’ I couldn’t believe it. I still can’t believe it.”
The win is the fourth largest lotto jackpot win in Atlantic Canada.
Hartlin had worked for years as a crossing guard in Dartmouth. He has plans to retire, and although he admits he’ll miss the job, he says he won’t miss the cold and rain.
As for how he’s going to spend his winnings, Hartlin says he wants to play it smart and is working with a financial planner, although he does a few few purchases planned.
“A house to live in and a new automobile.”
The winning ticket was purchased at the C-Shop in the Atlantic Superstore on Braemar Drive in Dartmouth.
The retailer will receive a one percent commission on the winning ticket, or $98,000.
