RCMP believe a fire that tore through an Alberta Junior Hockey League training facility in Whitecourt a few months ago may have been deliberately set.
On Feb. 16, 2016, the Whitecourt Wolverines Centre of Excellence was destroyed by fire. A group of former players were heading into the facility for a morning workout when they noticed black smoke.
RCMP said Monday morning there is evidence the fire was arson.

Officers continue to investigate the blaze and are asking anyone who saw any suspicious activity in the area after 10:30 p.m. on Feb. 15, 2016 to contact Whitecourt RCMP at 780-779-5900.

The $2-million Centre of Excellence opened in 2013. The 8,500-square foot training facility includes a gym, players’ lounge, auditorium and offices for staff, coaches and management.
