WATCH: A 55-year-old man is dead and a woman is seriously hurt after a fire at Surrey home Wednesday. As Grace ke reports, the RCMP’s serious crime unit had been called in, but the case has now been handed over to the coroner – May 11, 2016

Surrey RCMP now say an early morning fire at a home in Surrey that left one person dead is not suspicious.

There were also reports of an explosion at the time of the fire, but that has not been confirmed by police.

The fire broke out early Wednesday morning at a home in the 9000-block of 148 Street.

When police arrived on scene, they found a severely burned 55-year-old man. He died at the scene.

They also found a middle-aged woman who was suffering from smoke inhalation.

She was rushed to hospital in very serious condition.

Surrey RCMP will now be assisting the BC Coroners Service in their investigation.
