Police were called to investigate after a 4-year-old girl was struck and killed by a vehicle in northwest Calgary at around 8 p.m. Friday evening.
Several blocks were sealed off in the neighbourhood of Bowness and a traffic reconstruction team was at the scene for hours.
Police said a woman driving a pickup truck westbound along 79 Street and 47 Avenue, hit the little girl after she ran into the street.
The four-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said the little girl was walking with her parents at the time. There was some kind of altercation between the family’s dog and another dog. Police believe the parents attention was distracted by the fight between the dogs and for some reason the child might have tried to cross the road in front of the vehicle.
No other injuries were reported at the incident.
Officers said speed and alcohol were not factors in the collision.
Police continue to investigate the cause of the incident.
