WINNIPEG – The Manitoba Bisons introduced their four newest basketball recruits on Monday and three of them are from the Bison province.

John Taylor Collegiate’s James Wagner was highly sought after, but Wagner decided to stay put in Winnipeg.

Wagner, 17, is a 6’7″, 205 pound forward for the John Taylor Pipers. The Winnipeg native has played on several provincial teams and is one of the top ranked high school players in the province.

“We feel James is the top recruit in Western Canada this year and we are ecstatic to have him commit to the Bisons,” Bisons men’s basketball head coach Kirby Schepp said. “He checks all the boxes for us in terms of being an outstanding basketball prospect, student and high character young man. We feel he can be an impact player in our program for several years to come.”

Winnipeg’s Cameron O’Hara also signed a letter of intent to join the Bisons basketball team next season.

O’Hara, 17, is a two sport athlete at St. Paul’s but opted for hoops over football after playing linebacker for the Crusaders.

“He fits perfectly with type of player and person we have added the last number of years,” Schepp said. “He is a terrific student, very high character young man and tremendous basketball talent.”

The Bisons women’s basketball team also added two players. Winnipeg’s Lana Mackic and Hamilton’s Taylor Randall are both committed to the Herd for next season.

Mackic, 17, is a six foot forward for the Miles Mac Buckeyes. She is averaging 25.3 points per game and 13.3 rebounds per game this season.
