MEDICINE HAT, Alta. – Bart Houben turned into quite the softy after getting home from the dentist last Thursday. The Medicine Hat, Alta. man had five cavities filled and was given Ativan before the procedure, which caused some laughable side effects.

The video shows Houben lying in bed with a roll of tape under his pillow. His girlfriend, Nola Besplug, asks him why he has the tape.

“If my head falls off,” Houben said.

After calling the pharmacy and poison control to make sure he was okay, Besplug posted the video on Facebook for friends and family to see. After a friend asked to publicly share the video, the couple decided to post it on YouTube.

The video now has over 15 million views worldwide.

“It’s pretty cool! It’s overwhelming!” Houben said.

“I check the video out a lot. I like to see the comments. There’s a lot of derogatory ones, and a lot of good ones.”

Besplug said once she knew he was okay, she decided she had to film the conversation for future reference.

“If I wouldn’t have videotaped it, there’s no way he would’ve believed one word that came out of my mouth about this,” Besplug said. “It was just completely off the rocker, [the] stuff that he was saying and that he thought.”

“Jimmy Kimmel came on and I started watching him and nothing was on about me – he was doing his thing,” Houben said. “I texted [my friend] back, I said, ‘thanks for pulling my leg!’ and just when I hit send, I looked up and there’s Jimmy Kimmel talking about me.”

Kimmel said on the show, “there are a lot of videos out there of people who have strange reactions to the drugs they give you after the operation. But, this might be the best one since ‘David after the dentist.’ It’s titled ‘Bart after dental surgery’.”

Houben said they have also been contacted by The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon and the Ellen Degeneres Show.

The couple said they never expected the video to get this big–they are just happy to see so many people laughing.
