Great Scott! The Morning News goes back in time for Halloween

EDMONTON — Global Edmonton’s Morning News crew took a blast to the past this Halloween with some “Back to the Future” costumes.

Weather specialist Mike Sobel dressed up as Dr. Emmett “Doc” Brown, and Traffic Reporter Daintre Christensen dressed up as time-travelling teen Marty McFly.

Every year Mike and Daintre dress up, usually in coordinated outfits. We asked them a few questions about their annual tradition.

Daintre: “My favourite was Sonny and Cher! Even though I was afraid to sing ‘I got you babe.‘”

Mike: “I like the green outfit the best. Any time you can disappear right before the viewer’s eyes it creates a giggle.”

What is the biggest challenge of putting together a costume?

Daintre: “This year the costume was pieced together from a second hand store. The biggest challenge was finding a typical guy haircut. The majority were mullets, cavemen, Dracula, toupee, rockstar, and Justin Beiber.”

Mike: “The biggest challenge is: #1 finding an outfit that allows you breathe, #2 doesn’t create too much sweat over a four-hour-long show, and of course will be creative enough to keep the viewers attention.”

What was your favourite childhood costume?

Daintre: “My favourite was those plastic smocks with the plastic mask as Wonder Woman!”

Mike: “My favourite was when I wore a vampire costume that just terrified all the candy givers and their pets.”

What is your favourite Halloween candy?

Daintre: “Rockets!”

Mike: “My favourite candy has always been those the Oh Henry! bars.”

Our colleagues to the south also got into the Halloween spirit. Global Calgary Meteorologist Jordan Witzel paid homage to Ghostbusters by dressing as the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man – a fictional character featured in the franchise.
