TORONTO — Canadian actor Patrick J. Adams appeared to take a shot Thursday at the marketing team behind his show Suits.

The 33-year-old, who plays Mike Ross on the series, seemed to criticize an official tweet as dated and sexist.

On Wednesday, the Twitter account for the USA Network series shared a photo of Meghan Markle, who plays Mike’s fiancée Rachel Zane, with the words “I love him, all the way.” The tweet read: “Rachel has learned the value in being loyal.”

It is one in a series of tweets accompanied by the hashtag #SuitsLoyalty.

Adams responded with a tweet of his own.

“Hey @Suits_USA, I think you accidentally sent this tweet from the 1930s,” he wrote.

Global News has reached out to Adams’ rep.

Update: Adams tweeted an explanation after a link to this article was posted. “I just think it’s important for people to choose their words carefully.”

Although set at a law firm in New York City, Suits is filmed in Toronto.

In real life, Adams is engaged to actress Troian Bellisario.

Season 5 of Suits is in production until mid-November. The series was just picked up for a 16-episode sixth season.
