REGINA – Police officers are warning vehicle owners about an increase in license plate thefts.
Since the start of last year, 201 license plates were reported stolen in Regina and 50 stolen plates were recovered.
Investigators said they have mainly seen an increase since the start of 2015.
“What happens sometimes is a license plate will be removed from a vehicle and then placed on another vehicle. Sometimes that’s a stolen vehicle and it would help that thief from being detected or arrested,” said Elizabeth Popowich with the Regina Police Service.

Police are asking drivers to ensure their plates are on securely and to check whether they are still on before driving off.
If your license plate is stolen, you should report it immediately.
