Montreal firefighters battle blaze — and make an unexpected discovery

MONTREAL — Montreal firefighters battled a blaze in Lasalle that set off not only the smoke alarm — but alarm bells — when the fire revealed there was a small grow op in the building.

Emergency services were called at 1 a.m. to a fire at an apartment building on John F. Kennedy Street near Dollard Avenue.

According to officials, the fire started on the ground floor, but quickly spread to the floor above and the roof.

Over 40 firefighters were at the scene and all five tenants were evacuated.

A small number of marijuana plants were discovered in one of the apartments. These were not considered as the cause of the fire.
