WAKAW, Sask. – A tragedy is unfolding in a small Saskatchewan community. A teen took his own life outside of École St-Isidore in St. Isidore De Bellevue.

RCMP say the teen, who is under 18, died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound Wednesday morning. Police say they will not be releasing his name.

The youth attended the school in the community northwest of Wakaw.

A release from the Conseil des écoles fransaskoises (CÉF) Wednesday afternoon says the entire school board is mourning the death of one of its students.

“Students, parents and staff at the school and in our Francophone schools across Saskatchewan are shaken by what is evidently a tremendous loss in a typical rural Saskatchewan community, where everyone helps each other in times of need,” said CÉF in the release.

A team of counsellors was immediately dispatched from CÉF’s student services to the school to assist in supporting students and staff. The team will remain as long as needed.

Parents are invited by CÉF to talk to their children about today’s tragedy and allow them to express their feelings. Answers to their questions should be simple and honest.

Students’ parents can contact the school for further information.

Wakaw RCMP continue to investigate along with the coroner’s office.
