MONTREAL – The Legal Clinic Juripop is setting up a free consultation service for the next five Mondays at the Berri-UQAM metro station.

The public will have 15-minutes to meet with lawyers and notaries to answer any legal questions, from wills, tenant rights to pensions and immigration.

Juripop says the goal is to increase access to the judicial system.

The temporary clinics will open between 3:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. every Monday from January 26 to February 23.

According to Juripop executive director Julien David-Pelletier, each year, nearly 40,000 people do not meet the criteria to receive legal aid, which prevents them from defending themselves in court.

“This is the first time we’re doing this. We will try to adjust along the way, depending on the kind of questions we are asked,” David-Pelletier said.
