World Cup predicting sloth shuns honours from the city

TORONTO – The Toronto sloth that correctly predicted the World Cup winner has rejected honours from the city – repeatedly.

Deputy Mayor Norm Kelly was to present Bob the sloth with a congratulatory scroll today at the Toronto Zoo, but the furry mammal refused it at least three times.

And when the two-toed sloth did accept the scroll – awarded for its apparent precognition – the sloth dropped it within seconds, seemingly losing interest.

Kelly says the sloth’s laziness resembles that of his teenage son – “eating, sleeping and just hanging.”

Kelly also joked that he asked the sloth for predictions on the upcoming Toronto mayoral race but said the animal replied that he would “take his time” because “he’s a sloth.”

Bob picked Germany to win the big soccer match over Argentina just days before the final World Cup game.

Zoo employees say Bob predicts matches by grabbing one of two flags presented to him, adding he has a 71 per cent success rate.
