TORONTO – A member of the Toronto Police Service has been charged with assault in relation to an injury sustained by a 24-year-old man during an arrest last year.
In a statement released Friday, Special Investigations Unit (SIU) director Tony Loparco was said to have “reasonable grounds” to charge TPS Constable Jason Nanton with one count of Assault With a Weapon.

The decision to pursue charges against Nanton came after an SIU investigation into the incident, which took place on December 12, 2013, in the area of Woodbine Avenue and Danforth Avenue.
Nanton was one of several offices present.
He is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice at Old City Hall Courthouse on July 17, 2014.
The SIU is a law enforcement watchdog agency that investigates police matters involving where death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault have been made.
