TORONTO — The Bachelor Canada stars Brad Smith and Bianka Kamber announced Wednesday they have split.
“It’s with heavy hearts that Bianka & I have decided to end our engagement,” Smith tweeted. “We want you to hear it from us.”
In a message posted on Facebook, the couple explained: “After almost two years together, we have realized that, although we love each other intensely, we both want different things out of life.”
Smith told the Calgary Herald last year he and Kamber were planning to marry in June.
They thanked The Bachelor Canada for giving them an opportunity to meet.
“We wouldn’t change a single thing about our experience,” they wrote.
“This was more than just a television show to us, it was real life, and real love.”
Smith and Kamber insisted they will “always remain an important part of each other’s lives.”
Smith, 30, is a former CFL player who now works as an entertainment reporter for a Toronto TV station. He was the first bachelor to appear on the Canadian version of the reality series.
Kamber took to Twitter to say: “I’m so overwhelmed by all your kind words, positive energy, and support! It really means the world!”
