SASKATOON – A Saskatoon man charged with abducting his two-year-old child in a case that spanned four countries, has pleaded guilty to harbouring the young girl in the Philippines.

Alexander Levin represented himself at Saskatoon Provincial Court Monday afternoon. His wife and four children sat in the courtroom as he spoke of the child he fathered with Oziene Barbosa.

Levin has been accused of harbouring the child in an attempt to keep her from her Brazilian mother.

An investigation revealed the 47-year-old traveled with the girl and her mother to his native Ukraine from Brazil for vacation in July 2013. He then took the two-year-old to the Philippines and left her in the Southeast Asian nation before returning to Saskatoon.

He has four children in Saskatoon and fathered the two-year-old girl with his Brazilian mistress. She is now expecting another child, believed to be fathered by Levin as well.

Levin also revealed he has another child with a different woman from Brazil.

He commented on society’s disapproval for his actions and after reaffirming his guilt, asked that a “just and appropriate” sentence be handed down.

Struggling to stand at times, he read from a list of what he referred to as “39 mitigating factors.”

Levin said the two-year-old child was the product of a loving union between himself and a gorgeous Brazilian woman.

After gaining the password for her Facebook page, he told the court he was able to read lengthy descriptions of her interactions with three men.

“Conjugal infidelity” he said, was one of the most heinous acts a person could inflict on another individual. He said he felt deeply traumatized and that proportionate measures for her actions had to be taken.

The allegation of infidelity was met with skepticism from the judge, who asked Levin “Aren’t you being a little hypocritical?”

The young girl has since been reunited with her mother.

The Crown is arguing for a sentence of two years less a day, taking into account the 106 days Alexander Levin has already served in remand.
