Quebec costume designer Claire Nadon nominated for award

Gina Gershon portrays Donatella Versace in 'House of Versace.'. Handout

TORONTO — Quebec’s Claire Nadon was nominated Wednesday for a Costume Designers Guild award for her work on the TV movie House of Versace.

The Lifetime movie, which was filmed in Montreal, starred Gina Gershon as Donatella Versace and Canadian actor Enrico Colantoni as Gianni Versace.

Nadon told the UK’s Daily Mail last October she worked “24 hours a day, seven days a week, for two months” to create the costumes — without any cooperation from the Versace company.

“We had to buy books and look on the Internet and try to find enough documents to base ourselves upon,” said Nadon. “I wanted to be as correct and close to the original as possible.”

Nadon told the Daily Mail she cut most of the patterns and fabrics herself and used four seamstresses to create the wardrobe.

She is up against the costume designers for American Horror Story: Coven, Behind the Candelabra, Bonnie & Clyde and Phil Spector.

Nadon has worked as a costume designer on more than two dozen film and TV productions, including the Montreal-shot series Blue Mountain State.

The awards will be handed out Feb. 22 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.
