KSS airband competition going strong since 1980
Description
March 18, 2017
When music videos were just in their infancy, kids at Kelowna Secondary School began following a new trend: lip synching on stage while pretending to play instruments.
That was 1980, when the technology behind airband involved a cassette on the gym PA system and a couple of pot lights trained on the dark stage.
In 2017, lighting, music and effects are controlled by computer programs and students spend up to six months choreographing, rehearsing and digitizing effects.
Airband 2017 attracted more than a thousand people to the KSS gym this week.
