Man charged in assault of Hamilton taxi driver
HAMILTON – A 19-year-old Hamilton man has been charged in the assault and robbery of a 55-year-old cab driver in the southern Ontario city.
Police say taxi driver Anwar Sajad picked up two men and a woman at a grocery store in the city’s west end one evening last week.
When they got to their address, police allege the passengers said they had no money to pay the fare and asked the driver to accompany them inside to get the payment.
Police say the driver agreed but was thrown to the ground and repeatedly punched by one of the passengers.
The three passengers fled on foot and a neighbour called 911 upon discovering the victim.
Zacharia Ristic is charged with aggravated assault and robbery.
