3 teens arrested after carjacking on south Pembina Highway in Winnipeg

A 15-year-old boy and two teen girls, 14 and 17, were arrested after police said they stole a man’s car in the 2300 block of Pembina Highway.

Police said a 51-year-old man had parked his car and started to walk away when he realized he’d forgotten his keys in the ignition.

When he returned to his car he saw the suspects inside his vehicle as it started to drive away. The 51-year-old ran to the vehicle and tried opening the front passenger door as the car pulled up to Dartmouth Drive and Pembina Highway.

The suspect driving the vehicle sped off, turning north down Pembina Highway dragging the victim around 10 feet. He suffered minor injuries.

Officers found the stolen vehicle not long after, near Point Road and Pembina Highway. Police brought the vehicle to a stop with help from the Tactical Unit in the 300 block of Osborne Street.

A 15-year-old boy and two teen girls aged 14 and 17 were arrested, all from Winnipeg all previously known to police. An airsoft firearm and machete were found on the boy and police said one of the girls was responsible for an unrelated theft of a wallet from a vehicle in July in St. Boniface.

The 15-year-old boy was charged with:

  • Robbery
  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000
  • Fail to comply with conditions of undertaking given by officer in charge
  • Possession of a weapon x 2
  • Carrying concealed weapon x 2

The 17-year-old girl was charged with:

  • Robbery
  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000
  • Fail to comply with sentence x 2
  • Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000
  • Theft under $5,000

The 14-year-old girl was charged with:

  • Robbery
  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000
  • Fail to comply condition undertaking by Judge/Justice
