Five people, including a baby, escape West Kelowna house fire

Five people, including a baby, managed to escape a house fire on Michelle Crescent in West Kelowna on Friday night.

West Kelowna Fire Rescue was called to the fire around 9:45 p.m., and found flames through the roof around the chimney of the house.

Crews did a quick interior attack and stopped the fire before it consumed the entire roof and upper floor.

Thermal imaging cameras were used to check for hot spots behind walls.

The people who were inside the house are now in the care of Emergency Support Services.

The B.C. government announced Fire Prevention Week runs October 9-15.

Residents are being reminded to check their smoke alarms and replace alarms that are more than 10 years old.
