A strange and potentially dangerous theft of a vehicle happened in the south end of Calgary Sunday morning.
A man hopped on a Calgary transit shuttle bus at Shawville Gate, while the bus driver was out having a bathroom break.
The man ended up driving it onto Stoney Trail and then to McKenzie Lake Boulevard and Cranston Boulevard, before he was spotted by the Calgary police HAWCS helicopter and later tracked down by a police car on the ground.
“Another bus driver on another route witnessed the incident and reported it,” Ron Collins, A Calgary Transit spokesperson, said.
The bus was for route 153.
The suspect driving the bus was pulled over without incident after 22 minutes and taken into custody at the intersection of Sun Valley Boulevard at Sun Harbour Road.
Police said charges are pending.
