PENTICTON — Jordan Souch-Tremblay, 11, feels energized to be competing in his hometown.
“It’s exciting because this is my home pool and I know it,” he says.
Over 400 young swimmers from 40 teams across the province and the Yukon are in Penticton for the B.C. Short Course AA Championships.
This is the first time Penticton’s KISU swim club is hosting the event since the renovated community centre opened up.
The club’s president says this is an opportunity to showcase the city and the team.
“KISU has really been developing within the province as a really high quality top-level team and is starting to make a mark within the swim world,” says Jacki Kliever.
The event is a springboard to higher-level competitions and provides an opportunity for the swimmers to race against one another in an adrenaline-fueled environment.
“The swim meet isn’t so much about chasing swim times or performance times, it’s about the swimmers who have started swimming since September. This is their first major test of the year,” says Mike Flegel, a Swim B.C. Performance Director.
The event wraps up on Sunday. Those who quality for the AAA Championships will head to Victoria next month.
