Winnipeg Goldeyes bring back first baseman Casey Haerther

WINNIPEG — The Winnipeg Goldeyes have re-signed infielder Casey Haerther. He’s the first player officially signed to a contract with the Goldeyes for the 2016 season.

Haerther, 28, has played the last three season with the Goldeyes. In 2015 he appeared in 99 games where hit 11 home runs with 79 RBI while sporting a .312 batting average.

“I’m absolutely thrilled to have Casey back with the club,” Goldeyes’ manager Rick Forney said in media release. “Over the last three seasons, Casey has been one of the best run producers in the league, while playing outstanding defence at first base. Casey has evolved into a leader on the club, and will be a big piece in the middle of the Goldeyes’ lineup for the 2016 season.”

Haerther joined the Goldeyes in 2013 and has also played third base. He ranks first in RBI in the American Association over the last three seasons.

He’s spent seven years as a professional and prior to coming to Winnipeg Haerther played with the Arkansas Travelers, Inland Empire 66ers, Cedar Rapids Kernels and the Orem Owlz.
