CALGARY – Police have charged three people after a bank robbery on a busy street in downtown Calgary on Wednesday.
Armed robbers targeted the BMO bank in the 2300 block of 4th Street S.W. around 5 p.m.
Responding officers blocked off area roads for almost four hours as they determined if any suspects were still inside the bank.
Three suspects fled the scene, but were later tracked down and arrested by police.
Investigators say bank staff had been safely locked within a room inside the bank during the robbery, and none were held as hostages.
“They’re shaken up,” said Duty Inspector Mike Tillotson. “Of course, something like this can be traumatic. We have some support services for them that we’ve called out.
“In an incident like this, we do everything we can to make sure their health and wellness is looked after.”
Police have charged 21-year-old Lucas Wayne Windsor, 21-year-old Saleem Obaid Nasery and 23-year-old Matthew Alexis Valdes with one count of disguise with intent to commit an indictable offence, seven counts of forcible confinement, seven counts of robbery using a firearm and one count of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
The men are expected to appear in court on Friday.
