In a press release, the city’s director of facilities said they are constantly working with partners to review security measures.

“The City of Saskatoon takes the safety our staff and the residents visiting City hall very seriously and have security plans in place,” stated Tim Halstead.

Saskatoon police Chief Clive Weighill has confirmed officers will be stationed at city hall today and possibly for the rest of the week.

“When an event like this happens, people become afraid and we just want to make sure that their level of safety and awareness around them is comfortable for them,” said Weighill.

Weighill also stated there are no imminent threats to Saskatoon amid the situation in Ottawa and the force is in constant communication with CSIS.

He encouraged people to continue with their daily routines but remain vigilant.

“When such an unsettling event like this happens, I think it’s very normal for people to fear unknown and sometimes when you fear the unknown, you worry about worse case scenarios.

“Please go about your daily business, be vigilant where you go, and if you do see anything that you think is suspicious please call the Saskatoon Police Service or the RCMP.”
