REGINA – It has been a terrifying day for people in the nation’s capital after gunshots were fired on Ottawa’s Parliament Hill.

All buildings in Parliament Hill are under lockdown. Regina Qu’Appelle MP Andrew Scheer is currently on lockdown in the Justice Building on Parliament Hill.

“As the Parliament of Canada you know there is potential that this stuff can happen but I don’t think anyone can really mentally prepare for something like today,” said Scheer.

Scheer added that today is a very tragic and scary day.

“We always have RCMP around the grounds and House of Commons Officials inside the building and you hope you never need them but today we did, so we will be looking at what happened, how it happened and what we need to do to make sure this never happens again.”

Wascana MP Ralph Goodale just left Ottawa this morning because he had an event at the University of Regina tonight. He found out about the attacks on parliament Hill when his plane landed in Toronto.

“This is a shocking day, it’s a day that is absolutely without precedent in the Parliament of Canada and we need to make sure that the situation is stabilized and everyone is safe,” emphasized Goodale.
