Wind chill warnings continue across southern Manitoba

WINNIPEG – Frigid temperatures continued to hold Manitoba in their grasp on Tuesday morning.

A wind chill warning for southern Manitoba ended shortly after 10 a.m.

Environment Canada had warned of continuing extreme wind chill conditions across southern Manitoba, including in Winnipeg.

“Cold Arctic air with temperatures near -30 C combined with winds of 15 to 20 kilometres per hour will produce wind chill values of -40 to -43,” the early-morning alert said.

Brandon School Division cancelled rural busing on Tuesday, but all schools were open and school buses were running in the city.

The weather was expected to moderate by mid-morning.

The temperature was -30 C and the wind chill was -43 at the Richardson International Airport at 6 a.m.

After several days of wind chill warnings, the temperature was forecast to rise to -19 C on Tuesday with a mix of sun and cloud. Wind chill values were forecast to be around -30 in the afternoon.

The temperature is forecast to reach -11 C on Wednesday but the warmth will come with a chance of flurries.

That’s a lot better than Monday, when the high was -25 C and the best wind chill value was -38.

  • Morden, Winkler, Altona, Emerson, Morris
  • Steinbach, St. Adolphe, Dominion City, Vita, Richer
  • Bissett, Nopiming Provincial Park, Pine Falls
  • Whiteshell, Lac Du Bonnet, Pinawa
  • Sprague, Northwest Angle Provincial Forest
  • Arborg, Hecla, Fisher River, Gypsumville, Ashern
  • Dauphin, Roblin, Winnipegosis
  • Minnedosa, Neepawa, Russell, Riding Mountain National Park
  • Ste. Rose, McCreary, Alonsa, Gladstone

All Manitoba wind chill warnings ended at approximately 10 a.m.

Wind chill warnings for northwestern Ontario, including Kenora, Grassy Narrows, Whitedog, Sioux Narrows, Nestor Falls and Morson, ended shortly after noon.
