Wind chill warning ends for Toronto

TORONTO – Environment Canada has ended a wind chill warning for the City of Toronto as temperatures begin to warm up today and during the rest of the week.

Wednesday’s expected high is -8 degrees Celsius, however the wind chill this morning is -27.

Much of southern Ontario, including the Greater Toronto Area, was under multiple weather warnings due to cold arctic air flowing into the region.

For the last two days, Toronto has also been under an extreme cold weather alert which has freed up extra services for the homeless.

A number of school bus services were cancelled this week due to the severe cold weather and public transportation was also affected.

Several Toronto Transit Commission street cars were inoperable due to frozen electrical wires and systems.

Toronto’s Pearson International Airport had to deal with delays and cancellations to hundreds of flights which stranded thousands of passengers on Tuesday.

There is relief in sights as temperatures are expected to reach above the freezing mark this weekend.

Friday’s high is plus 1 degrees Celsius, while Saturday will reach a daytime high of plus 9.
