Arctic air across B.C. will cause temperatures to plummet this weekend

Arctic air has brought colder-than-normal temperatures to the province this week, and they are here to stay into next week.

Meteorologist Kristi Gordon says while this weather pattern is not rare, it is quite unusual.

It is normal for residents in the Interior to get cold temperatures this kind of year, but it is unusual when that weather pattern comes out to the coast.

Gordon says this one is quite intense and it is going to last.

For the South Coast this weekend is going to be very cold. At the Vancouver Airport temperatures will only reach a high of -2 and it will be colder in the valley with highs of -5.

The cold air through the valley will also cause windy conditions, which Gordon says will make the temperatures feel even colder.

Those temperatures will last until early next week before it starts to break down.

Before that, the Lower Mainland will see a chance of flurries on Thursday, but Vancouver Island and the Sunshine Coast will see a couple of centimetres Wednesday night and into Thursday morning.
