Ontario Provincial Police said the fires, at a second protest encampment in Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory, brought morning freight train traffic to a halt.

Metrolinx says the entire Lakeshore East line will be closed this weekend to commuters for several significant upgrades to improve service.

There were delays on GO Transit's Lakeshore East line while rail service on the UP Express line was cancelled Wednesday evening.

Lakeshore West, Lakeshore East, and Barrie Go lines will all be impacted by the upgrades starting the weekend of Sept. 8-9. 

Premier Kathleen Wynne announced a major expansion of GO Transit train service into Durham Region on Monday, but no one was saying how much the huge project will cost.
