A rally and march through downtown Edmonton Saturday, held in defiance of COVID-19 measures, is now raising concerns about racism in Alberta.

Police did not release the organizer’s name, but stated “this is the third ticket issued to this organizer.”

Police blocked off several streets in downtown Saskatoon on Saturday in response to a protest against public health guidelines.

The organizer self-identified themselves to police, which led to a ticket being issued for the fine of $2,300.

Two people who were given $1,200 tickets when they took part in protests at the Alberta legislature during the COVID-19 pandemic in May will not have to pay the fines.

A 15-person maximum rule was in place at the time to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic, and Teichroew was part of a group of about 50 protesters.

Hundreds of people gathered at the Alberta legislature grounds Monday to protest rules put in place by health officials in an effort to stop the spread of COVID-19.

"I think we've seen, in the past number of weeks, one or two examples of people behaving very badly," said Health Minister Adrian Dix.
