The discovery of highly infectious avian flu near the Calgary zoo has prompted the facility to close down some exhibits and limit public access to some of its animals.

Calgary firefighters scrambled to contain a large grass fire that broke out just north of the Calgary Zoo during the busy morning rush hour on Thursday.

Zoo officials said the public will not be allowed to see the cougar kittens.

The Wild Canada zone at the Calgary Zoo was closed Friday after one of the zoo's two polar bears, Baffin, did not resurface from the pool and died.
