Valemount RCMP officers are investigating a deadly crash on Highway 5 involving a tractor trailer approximately 22 kilometres north of Blue River.
They were called to the scene of the accident at 1:40 p.m. and found the tractor trailer had left the highway and rolled down a 15 metre embankment. The driver, who was the only one in the truck, was found dead.
The man’s name, age and hometown will not be released until the police are able to notify his next of kin.
The highway is slick with snow and ice, but it’s not known if the weather is the cause of the accident.
RCMP along with Work Safe BC, the coroner and Ministry of Transportation are all at the site continuing the investigation.
Highway 5 is currently open to single alternating traffic only.
