Calgary fire crews battle multi-home blaze in Cougar Ridge

An afternoon house fire in a southwest Calgary neighbourhood spread to at least three homes.

Shortly after 2 p.m., fire crews were deployed to the 100 block of Cougartown Close S.W., in the community of Cougar Ridge.

When Calgary Fire Department crews arrived, one house was engulfed in flames and the fire was spreading to a second home. A second alarm was called in for additional resources.

Four residents escaped the homes without injuries, but two dogs are unaccounted for.

Three homes were “completely destroyed,” CFD said, and a fourth home suffered heat damage to its exterior.

Six people in total were displaced from the three homes. Surrounding homes were also evacuated, but those residents have since returned to their houses.

The cause of the fire has not been confirmed and investigators are on the scene.
