Alberta election 2023 results: Grande Prairie-Wapiti

Global News is projecting Ron Wiebe will win the Grande Prairie-Wapiti seat for the United Conservative Party.

Grande Prairie-Wapiti is a provincial riding located in northwestern Alberta and does not have an incumbent.

This riding is currently represented by United Conservative MLA Travis Toews, who first took office in 2019.

Toews collected 17,772 votes, winning 74.85 per cent of the vote in the 2019 Alberta provincial election.

Toews was finance minister for all but a few months last year when he ran to replace former Jason Kenney as party leader, coming in second to Danielle Smith. He announced in March he would not be running again.

Voters will decide who will represent Grande Prairie-Wapiti during the upcoming Alberta provincial election on May 29, 2023. Visit this page on election night for a complete breakdown of up-to-the-minute results.

History

The riding has traditionally voted conservative.

Before Travis Toews in 2019, the most recent legislative member for Grande Prairie-Wapiti was the United Conservative Party’s Wayne Drysdale.

Drysdale first won the seat as a Progressive Conservative in the 2008 election and became a member of the UCP when the PC Party merged with the Wildrose Party in 2017.

Drysdale briefly held a cabinet post when Jim Prentice was premier, serving as minister of transportation.
